Invest and save during Fairtrade Fortnight

News

Fairtrade Fortnight, beginning February 25th, will celebrate the success of the growing industry and raise more awareness of the many things consumers can do to support fairtrade, which now includes fair savings.

While most people know they can buy fairtrade products, relatively few know they can save fairly too, and the Triodos Bank's Fairtrade Saver account, run in partnership with the Fairtrade Foundation, allows savers to support the best of the UK's fairtrade companies.

Money deposited in it will only be used to finance fairtrade enterprises - from national brands like Cafedirect to local companies like Bristol-based clothing outfit, the Bishopston Trading Company.

The account has raised over £85,000 to support the Foundation's work, through a special trail fee (a sum of money the bank pays to the Foundation annually, equivalent of 0.25% of the average balance of savings deposited in the savings account) and interest donations from savers, since it was launched five years ago.

More informarion on the account can be found on the Triodos website, and to learn more about what is happening with Fairtrade Fortnight click here.
