Maximising Social Impact through Tax-Efficient Giving and Investment Strategies

This event is held in partnership with SSAFA the Armed Forces charity, which will also be hosting the session at the prestigious Honourable Artillery Company.

The Honourable Artillery Company provides a remarkable setting for this event, combining rich history with a focus on impactful philanthropy, creating an inspiring backdrop for valuable conversations to follow. SSAFA will provide attendees with the unique opportunity to experience a private tour of this historic venue before the discussion begins. The tour will run from 5:20pm to 5:40pm, leading on to the panel discussion. Please aim to arrive for 5:00pm to allow time for registration before the tour begins.

This event will explore the intersection of tax strategy, impact investment and philanthropy, and the regulatory landscape, offering actionable insights for donors, advisors, and impact investors on how to make their giving and investments more tax-efficient and impactful, achieving maximum social impact. We will also delve into relevant policies and government incentives that shape charitable giving and impact investing. By focusing on tax reliefs andthe tax benefits of various giving models (like DAFs, foundations, and charitable giving accounts) and impact investment vehicles, we’ll help attendees navigate the often complex landscape of tax incentives, regulatory frameworks, and policies governing charitable giving and impact investing.

Key Points for Discussion:

    • The Role of Tax Strategy in Effective Giving - Discuss how tax-efficient giving, guided by tax policy, can be a powerful tool for increasing the impact of charitable donations. Explore the tax benefits of charitable deductions, tax-exempt status, and gifting strategies, including the role of appreciated assets and donor-advised funds (DAFs). Learn how evolving tax policies influence giving behaviours and impact social outcomes.
    • Exploring Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) and Tax Benefits - Dive deeper into DAFs as a tax-efficient giving vehicle, with a focus on the tax advantages embedded within government regulations. Discuss how tax policies surrounding DAFs can empower donors to maximise their giving power, from tax deductions at the time of contribution to the flexibility of distributing funds over time.
    • Tax Benefits of Impact Investing: Aligning Returns with Impact - Examine how impact investments—ranging from social bonds to community investments—offer potential tax benefits while allowing donors to achieve both financial returns and social impact. Discuss specific tax incentives for social impact bonds, green investments, and the role of government policies in shaping these markets.
    • Charitable Trusts and Foundations: Creating Long-Term Impact - Explore how charitable trusts and private foundations can be used as tax-efficient vehicles for giving within the constraints of tax regulations. Discuss the rules around tax deductions, grant-making strategies, and how to balance financial stewardship with a social mission.
    • Working with Advisors to Structure Tax-Efficient Philanthropy - Provide insights into how financial advisors and philanthropy consultants can help clients design a tax-efficient giving strategy that maximises impact, ensures compliance with government regulations, and minimises liabilities. Discuss the role of tax planning in philanthropy, the integration of giving models with broader financial goals, and how changing government policies influence this planning.
