The combination of the new ecology and the responses to it suggests that philanthropy has entered a fascinating and perplexing moment of transition.  The old norms and practices don't fee completely successful, but no new, shared set of models, approaches, or ideas has yet settled into place. Many go about busienss as usual, while some motivated people try new things as part of a larger, uncoordinated quest for better fit.  Put all these trends and themes together, though, and what emerges are more options and opportunities, more creative experiments, and the potential for real gains.
