Successful corporate philanthropy takes strategic approach, study shows

News

A new report by McKinsey, the management consultancy, shows that few companies feel that their philanthropy programmes are meeting their objectives.

The report, The state of corporate philanthropy: a McKinsey global survey, stated that only about a fifth of respondents say that philanthropic programmes at their companies “are meeting social goals and stakeholder expectations”.

Companies that are doing well take a more strategic approach to their philanthropy, according to the survey.  Their programmes “are more likely to address social and political trends relevant to the business and to be influenced by community and business needs“.  They are also more likely to involve collaboration with other companies.  And, these companies are also more likely to achieve any business goals they have set for their corporate philanthropy, in addition to their social goals.
