Barclays Stockbrokers launches National Share Giving Day

News

Barclays Stockbrokers launched National Share Giving Day on 21st July to coincide with a new initiative with Sharegift.

Barclay’s research showed that almost a third of their clients would give unwanted shares to charity. While 15% already do, through a specialist agency such as Sharegift, a further 16% would like to learn how to do so. This initiative aims to provide information for Barclays Stockbroker’s clients on giving shares.

Sharegift enables investors to donate small or unwanted shareholdings to charity at no cost to themselves. The charity was founded in 1996 and has collected and sold millions of unwanted shares, donating over £12m to 1,500 charities to date.

Claire Mackintosh, chief executive and co-founder of Sharegift, said, “Sharegift’s vision was to create a new funding stream for UK charities. Tiny unwanted parcels of shares can be a headache for companies and shareholders alike, and Sharegift provides a charitable solution to this international problem.”
